IY curriculum is an appropriate instructional program for beginning level, Spanish-speaking adults in the CBET program. Developed in accordance with the California ESL Model Standards, and correlated to the CASAS Competencies, over 30 districts implemented the program in the first four months of the product release!
It is not necessary for teacher of the individualized learning program teacher working with IY to be bi-lingual. English-only transcripts of the videos and English-only versions of the workbook allow a non-Spanish speaking teacher to preview the student materials. However, a bi-lingual teacher would have the ability to support the learner during the early one-on-one teaching sessions.
Two primary delivery models are used by agencies utilizing IY in CBET programs:
